Week 3 Blog Post

 Olivia Langosch

This week I learned about the life cycles of different living things. For our group, we did a life cycle of frogs. We created the different stages with play dough. This included the eggs, which would then turn into a tadpole, then a froglet, which would then turn into a frog. This is shown below. I also learned about the life cycles of plants, which all plants have similar life cycles. I can also relate this to what I've already learned because in second grade, my class hatched butterflies. We had four different cases with eggs in them, which turned to caterpillars, and then pupas, then butterflies. Then we got to release them outside. I will always remember that because it was a fun activity to do in class.

I think this is a really fun activity to do in the classroom when I am a teacher, I think I will do this activity because this is an activity that is hands on, and fun. Since it's fun, this is what students remember about lessons. Instead of just talking to the class for an hour explaining life cycles, I will be incorporating activities like this. Like I said above, my butterfly experience was a fun experience that I had in school, and it made me remember. Coming into class this week, I already knew a lot about life cycles because of my experience.

We also learned about life cycles of plants, and me and a partner got to plant our own seeds and next week we will see our progression of our plants.

  1. I really like how you related what we learned this week with something that you learned before! I also agree that using models in class is a great way to increase student understanding and engagement!

  2. I love the little frogs you made! But I can relate to already knowing the butterfly basics since we experienced that in elementary school!
