Week 4 Blog Post
Olivia Langosch
This week I learned about the 5E Model. I learned that the 5 E's stand for engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate. The engage is about engaging your students to a new topic by having students connect their past knowledge to what this new topic is about. Exploring is about students asking questions and being curious, teachers can do this by setting up an experiment or an activity to get them more curious. Explain is when teachers directly introduce a concept or skill, while students develop deeper understanding for the topic, and can share findings from the activities or experiment. Elaborate is to challenge students' knowledge, so students can deepen their learning. Evaluate is to progress toward desired goals, and for students to self assess their learning. (The summary chart my group did is shown below).
I also got to see the progression of my partner and I's plant from last week:
From what I learned in class, I can apply this to my future teaching because by using this chart with the 5Es I can specifically write out lessons easier with seeing each E and what I need to do. Setting up lessons is important, and can be easier to see what to do, because with these 5Es I can see the progression with my students, communicate with others, and me to check for understanding, and to gather new information, or to see a different way that they were not thinking before.

I also agree that its so much easier to see the 5Es and write them out. I found them to also be a great tool. And with the plant growth its pretty neat to see how far they've grown in such a small amount of time!!
ReplyDeleteHi Olivia!
ReplyDeleteI also agree that utilizing the 5 E's in lesson plans will make it visually much easier to reach learning objectives and carry out effective lessons. I really liked your post, great job!
Hi Olivia!
ReplyDeleteI also want to use this 5E model in my future lesson to create my lessons. I agree that this model will make creating a lesson a little easier as it will make sure that we include everything needed for our students to understand the topic being taught.
