Week 11 Blog Post
Olivia Langosch
This week I learned about how important observing is when learning and teaching about science. The first picture below is the observations we did with candy, using our five senses and wrote down all of the observations we made. I wrote about the colors, the size, how the candy smelled, how it was packaged, how it tasted. The second picture is an experiment we did with the colors of m&ms or skittles and observed the colors of the candy coming off, how fast or slow, where they went, if they mixed together, etc.
I was able to relate these experiments to what I already knew because growing up, in elementary school, we did similar experiments like this with observing. We also did the stations with observing, and then applying it and making connections about why we think these happen, and asked questions if we had any after each one. I remember doing these kinds of stations elementary school with worksheets to observe and apply what we observed scientifically.
I will be using this in my future teaching career because I never realized how important it was to observe until talking about it in class. I liked the different experiments and just flat out writing everything we see, hear, feel, taste, and smell to give students a better understanding of how to observe and how to apply. This was. very hands-on and collaborative, which I think is important for students.
